GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING FOR THIS TYPE OF VISA:

Applications for temporary or permanent resident permits submitted to the National Migration Service must be submitted through a legal representative, in accordance with the requirements established for each visa or permit category, except for those categories requested from abroad and those applicable for educational purposes, which must meet the following common requirements:

  1. Copy of passport duly certified by a Panamanian notary public:

  1. Criminal record certificate from the country of origin or residence. In countries where this document is not issued, the applicant must provide a certificate from a diplomatic or consular agent of their country of origin accredited in the Republic of Panama, stating the non-existence of said certificate, and a sworn statement before a notary public, stating that they have no criminal record.

  2. A health certificate issued by a qualified professional within the three months prior to submitting the application. It is recommended to take this exam in Panama City just before submitting the application at the Immigration offices.

  3. Payment of B/. 250.00 two hundred fifty balboas in favor of the National Treasury as fees for the application of a migratory category, and B/. 800.00 eight hundred balboas in favor of the National Migration Service as a repatriation deposit.

  4. Sworn statement of personal background.

All documentation originating from abroad must be translated into Spanish by an authorized official translator and comply with the legalization requirements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Panama.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

Once the requested documentation is submitted, the national migration service will resolve the applications for temporary or permanent resident permits within a period of no more than sixty business days.

The applicant will be entitled to receive the corresponding processing receipt while their application is being decided.

CAN YOU WORK LEGALLY WITH THIS VISA?

Yes, one of the ways to apply for this visa is for work reasons; for this you need:

  1. Letter of employment on letterhead, signed by the employer's legal representative, certifying the position, salary, and commitment to cover repatriation expenses, as applicable.

  2. Certificate from the Public Registry of Panama, of the employing company.

  3. Employer's Notice of Operations

For the approval of a residence permit, the employee and the employer must process the work permit with the Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development, which authorizes the applicant to work in the national territory.

CAN YOU APPLY AS AN INVESTOR?

Yes, you can apply for investment in real estate: under this modality it is required to provide the certificate of Public Registry of Panama that proves the ownership of the real estate, in the personal name of the applicant, with a minimum value of two hundred thousand balboas (B/. 200,000.00), an operation that may be financed through a local bank.

The application may include your spouse, children under 18, family members with disabilities, and dependent parents as dependents. Children over 18 and under 25 may be claimed as dependents, provided they demonstrate that they are enrolled in regular studies and are financially dependent on the applicant.
